THE ELECTIONS.
[Per United Press Association.] Wellington, July 1. Major Atkinson leaves Wellington, overland, for New Plymouth, on his election trip, to-morrow morning, and addresses his constituents at Hawera on Thursday. Mr. W. H. Pilliett denies that he was ever declared a candidate for Picton, and consequently never withdrew. Blenheim, July 1, Mr. Joseph Ward is announced for Waerau in opposition to Mr. Dodson. A third candidate is expected in Mr. George Henderson. Nominations are fixed for the 15th. Mr. W. H. Exes has issued an address to the Picton electors, in opposition to Mr, Connolly. Other candidates, including Mr, Pilliet, have withdrawn, Dunedin, July 1. James Arkel contests Waikouati in the Liberal interest. Mr. 0. G. Hodge is likely to contest the Peninsula against Mr. Larnach. Mr. N. Y. Wales is asked to stand for Roslyn, and Mr. James Gow, ex-Mayor, for Dunedin South. Christchurch, July 1, Mr. J. T. Fisher is again contesting Heathcote. Mr. F. Garrick addressed a meeting at Merrivale, and received votes of thanks and confidence. He avowed his general support to Sir Julius Vogel. Mr. John Scott, of Scott, Bros., ironfounders, comes forward for Sydenham, and Mr. John Crewes is a candidate for the same constituency. Mr. W. Dunlop has definitely announced to oppose Mr. Harker for Avon. Mr. R. L. Higgins has decided not to oppose Mr. Pearson for Ashley. Auckland. July 1. Mr. Joseph Newman has withdrawn hia candidature for Auckland City North, and Mayor Waddell will contest that seat. It is stated that Mr. Swanson will contest Auckland City West. Tawhai will not again contest the North Maori Electoral District. Sydney Taiwhanga is a candidate. Napier, July 1. Mr. and Mr. Sheehan opposes MSTOrmc Napier. t It is expected Mr. Hans Tapsell will retire from the Eastern Maori contest in favor of Mr. James Carroll. Mr. Sutton addressed the Taradale electors on Saturday. He received a vote of thanks. Ashburton, July 1. Mr. W. C. Walker, Countv Chairman, opposes Mr. Wason for the Ashburton seat. Invercargill, July 1. Mr. James Gardner, of Birchwood, has withdrawn from the Wallace contest. Mr. Finlay Murchison, of Waikaia, it to be asked to contest Hokonui. Oamaru, July 1. Lord Reidhaven, heir to the Earldom of Seafield, is being requisitioned to stand for Oamaru. Mr. Charles Wesley has been brought forward by the Maoris to oppose Tairoa for the Southern Maori District.
