Dunedin, June 23, The Star is authorised to contradict a statement that the Norwich Union Co.’s fire insurance business has been transferred to the National Co. Mr. Fish is announced for Dunedin South, Mr. Bathgate for Roslyn, and Mr, Stout for Dunedin East. Christchurch, June 23. A stack of straw worth £lO, owned by Mr. A. Catchpoole, Chairman of the Licensing Committee, has been burned at Woodend. It is believed to have been done wilfully for the refusal of a license of the Royal Hotel, The New Zealand Shipping Co. have received a cable announcing the departure of the lonic from Plymouth for Auckland, Wellington, and Lyttelton on the 10th. Wellington, June 23. At a large meeting, of Hearn’s supporters held on Saturday night, a committee of five was appointed to collect subscriptions towards Hearn’s stake money. Fifty-eight pounds was collected in the room. Auckland, June 23. A meeting of the Licensed Victuallers Association passed a vote of censure on the licensing committees of .he city and suburbs for having manifested a spirit of bitterness towards all persons in the trade, which warranted the contention that a radical change in the licensing laws is necessary, and that the draft bill prepared by the Otago Association be approved. A resolution was also passed approving of the impartiality of Superintendent Thompson. New Plymouth, July 23. A requisition, very numerously signed, asking Sir Julius Vogel to stand for New Plymouth. A meeting will be held at Waitara on Monday for the purpose of initiating a requisition to Sir Julius Vogel to stand for Taranaki. Addresses have been issued by Mr. E. M. Smith, Mr. B. Whitley-King, and Mr. Charles Brown, as candidates for New Plymouth.
