GISBORNE HARBOR BOARD.
After the meeting of the Borough Council, a meeting of the Harbor Board was held. The following letter was read from Messrs. Common Shelton & Co., re their foreshore valuation “ Referring to our meeting on Saturday last with your chairman, we would suggest as a means to a settlement, that you should in the first place state your views as to the terms and conditions on which you intend to offer the foreshore occupied by us. After this we should have no objection to appoint a valuator to value with your valuator our premises. If these two points are arranged to our satisfaction, we have no doubt we shall be able to come to a satisfactory arrangement with you. We are anxious to meet you in a fair and liberal spirit, and we trust you will show the same feeling to us.” Considerable discussion ensued on this letter, when the following resolutions were passed :—(1). That the following shall be the conditions, and upset price of the foreshore at present occupied by Messrs. Common Shelton & Co. (2). The license (lease), shall be for fourteen years. (8). The upset rental per foot, up to 100 feet shall be, for the first five year’s 10s. per foot. The second five year’s 15s. per foot, and the last four year’s 20s. per foot. (4.) The rental shall be payable quarterly. (5.) The licensee shall, at the expiration of the term granted, have full power to reserve any wharf or buildings erected upon the said foreshore. (6.) The Board reserves the right at any time during the currency of the license of taking possession of the said foreshore by giving not less than six months notice in writing so to do. Provided that the then full value of the said property, comprising rights, buildings, &c., shall be paid to the licensee. (7.) All wharfage due upon goods shipped from, and received within the said foreshore shall be paid to the Harbor Board, or any duly authorized person on their behalf. (8.) The site shall be put up to public auction subject to repayment of the value of all buildings now erected thereon. With regard to the premises of Mr. Adair on the foreshore, it was proposed by Mr. Tutchen, and seconded by Mr. Joyce, that the rental be £45 for the first five year's, £55 for the second five year’s, and £65 for the last four year’s.—Carried. It was resolved, “ That the Board take over the property for £460, if Mr. Adair was agreeable.” Mr. Adair objected to that, and it will be put up to public auction.
