Insurance Rates.

[Per Association Telegrams.] Wellington, June 17. The fire insurance rates being considered excessive, a deputation waited on the Underwriters Association, submitting certain proposals for the reduction in the rates. The Chairman of the Association subsequently wrote offering 10 p.c. discount in back rates. This as being exclusive, and not enough besides, was regarded as unsatisfactory, and at a meeting of twenty of the principal insurers, it was resolved to form a fire insurance protection association with the declared object object of insuring the insurer a substantial reduction on fire rates now charged.
