[Per United Press Association.] Wellington, June 17. The Marine Department have received the following telegram from Auckland: —“The barque Andrea Kias, David Murray, bound from Formosa to Auckland, which was towed to Manakau Heads, had a crew of Malays sick and dying with dropsy—two already dead. Dr. Scott went to the ship last evening. The master had been misled by an old chart, which shows Auckland on the West Coast of New Zealand.” John Webber, a laboring man, aged 52 years, committed suicide by poisoning at 2 o’clock this morning supposed been drinking heavily and took strychnine. Dunedin, June 17. The publicans of the Bell and Leith districts are petitioning the County Council for a reduction of rates owing to the depreciation of property through only 10 o’clock licenses being granted. Wanganui, June 17. At the inquest on the body of Ann Snigrans, who was found dead on the Brunswick Road yesterday, a verdict was returned to the effect that she met her death by drowning, while under the influence of drink. Napier, June 17. A station hand named Thompson, from the Patea district, committed suicide by jumping from the Taradale bridge, into the Tutarke river. He is believed to have been insane.
