The Steamer Albion.

[Per Association Telegrams.] EVENTFUL PASSAGE.—THE STEAMER IN A GALE. FATAL ACCIDENT.—BURIAL AT SEA. Wellington, June 12. The steamer Albion, about which some anxiety has been expressed, arrived here at 3.30 yesterday afternoon. The Albion left Sydney on the 2nd June, and had fine weather until the 6th, when a heavy sea from the N.E. was experienced, during which the vessel labored heavily. On Saturday, 7th instant, the pumps were sounded, and ten inches of water found in fore, and two feet in after hold. It was also discovered that all the pumps wore completely choked, and would not work. At 4 o’clock the same afternoon all hands commenced baling with buckets, but the water still gained, and at 7 p.m. all the fires went out, and the steamer , was hove to under canvas. On Monday, the 9th, the weather moderated, and the water in the hold was considerably reduced. During the afternoon of the 9th the fires were relighted, and course resumed with one boiler, arriving as above. On Sunday, the Sth, the boatswain, A. B. Proud, was severely injured by being dragged round the barrel of the steam winch, and his wounds terminated fatally. The unfortunate man was buried next day.
