The Republican party are strongly objecting to the nomination of ex-Secretary Blaine as a candidate for the presidency, and refuse to agree with the decision of the Chicago Convention. THE EUROPEAN CONFERENCE. London, June 10. In the House of Lords to-day Earl Granville, Foreign Secretary, in reply to an inquiry stated that parleying with France in connection with the projected European Conference on Egyptian affairs is proceeding in a very satisfactory manner. His lordship added he hoped to be able to make a statement on the subject next week. The Pall Mall Gazette to-day publishes a paragraph asserting that England and France have arrived at an agreement regarding Egypt, that England will lend that country eight millions, that the British Government consents to the principle of multiple control in Egyptian finances, that a British force will remain in Egypt for at least three years and a half, and that Turkey will occupy the Red Sea ports and send a force of fifteen thousand men to pacify Soudan. It is announced that Mr. Redmond, member for Wexford, and Mr. Sexton, member for Sligo, are making the necessary arrangements for a visit to Australia. The Adelaide Town and Country Bank have established a branch office in London. It is now considered certain that the Recidiviste Bill will be passed by the French members without amendment. A subsequent compromise is, however, possible. The Technical Commission which is to meet in Paris to consider the proposal for widening the Suez Canal, has been officially confirmed.
