MR. GANNON AT WAIROA.
[Per Electric Telegraph—Copyright.] [from our own correspondent.] Wairoa, May 81. Mr. Gannon addressed the electors here last night. He dwelt strongly upon the inaccurate report of Mr. Locke’s remarks upon pre-emption circulated in the district. Mr. Gannon compared the report in the Poverty Bay Herald with the amended report issued by Mr. Locke. Mr. Gannon pointed out that the report of Mr. Locke’s speech circulated among the electors at Wairoa with reference to the pre-emptive right question altogether disagreed with the report published in the Poverty Bay Herald. Mr. Mayo, Mr. Locke’s agent, at the conclusion of the meeting proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Gannon for his very able address and his kindness in coming to the Wairoa to address the electors. He thought that no vote of confidence should be proposed until all the candidates had been heard. The motion was carried unanimously. While Mr. Gannon’s meeting was being held at Wairoa, a private meeting numerously attended was held at Frasertown to secure that gentleman’s return. Mr. Gannon addresses the electors at Frasertown to-night. He will receive a large amount of support at this end of the electorate.
