(reuter’s telegrams.) OAK STAKES. The race for the Oak Stakes, run at Epsom to-day, resulted as follows :— Busibody ... .. .. .. 1 Superba 2 Queen Adelaide 3 CRICKET.—AUSTRALIANS v. GENTLEMEN. London, May 29. The Australian cricketers commenced a match (their sixth) to-day at Lord’s ground, where they met an Eleven representing the Gentlemen of England, composed as follows —Messrs. C. T. Studd, S. Christopherson, E. J. Daver, W. G. Grace, W. W. Read, A. A. Redley, A. G. Steele, G. V. Vernon, J. A. Bath, J. Robertson and Lord Harris. The attendance on the ground was enormous, notwithstanding the cold and inclement weather. An excellent wicket was pitched, and the ground was in first-rate order. The Gentlemen went in first, and were not disposed of until they had run up a total of 277 runs. The Australians then went in for their first innings, and when the stumps were drawn for the day their score stood at 83 for the loss of five wickets. Later.—The following are the full scores in the above cricket match to-day:—Gentlemen: Grace, c, 21; Lord Harris, b, 31; Read, b, 31; Studd, b, nil; Steele, b, 44 ; Ridley, c and b, 68; Vernon, c, 58; Diver, b, 4; Robertson, b, 1; Bush, b, 6; Christopherson, not out, nil; extras, 13. Total, 277. Ridley was the highest scorer. He gave a chance early in the innings, but was badly missed. Spofforth while bowling seriously injured his right hand in stopping a quick return from the batsman. The following are the scores of the visitors: — McDonnell, c, 13 ; Bannerman, c, 9; Murdoch, c, nil; Giffen, c, 1; Midwinter, c, 5 ; Blackham, not out, 36; Bonnor, not out, 16; extras, 3. Total for 5 wickets, 83. May 30. The Australians were all disposed of in their first innings for 135 runs, being 140 behind their opponents, they have had to follow on, and their second innings is now proceeding.
