The race for the Derby was run at Epsom to-day, and resulted as follows :— St. Gatier f Harvester .. .. .. .. t Queen Adelaide .. ..3 It was a grand race, resulting in a dead heat for first place. FOOTBALL.—NEW ZEALAND v. PARAMATTA. Sydney, May 28. The New Zealand Football team opened their campaign at Paramatta to-day against the County of Cumberland team. The weather was fine but the ground was hard. At the close of the day’s play New Zealand had scored 33 points and the home team none. For the visitors T. Ryan scored one goal and G. Helmore three ; Roberts, Robertson, O’Donnell, and Lecky each obtained two tries, and Taiaroa and W. V. Milton (captain) three each. The Paramatta team displayed poor play, but that of the New Zealanders was much admired. May 29. In the match against County Cumberland yesterday four goals for the New Zealanders were obtained by Ryan and W. V. Milton (captain), not Ryan and Helmore as telegraphed yesterday, Milton obtained three out of the four goals. Taiaroa particularly distinguished himself by brilliant play. The visitors were entertained at dinner in the evening at Paramatta. An extra match has been arranged to take place in Sydney on June 3. H. B. STEEPLECHASE WEIGHTS. [Per Press Association.] Napier, May 2R. The following are the weights for the Hawke’s Bay Steeplechase, to be run on the 26th of June :—

Auckland, May 29. The Takapuna Jockey Club disallowed the protest against Grey Momus in the Steeplechase. Dressmaker has been disqualified for twelve months for unfair riding, and Huxtable the jockey disqualified.
