Destructive Fires.
[Per Association Telegrrms.] Nelson, May 29. A fire occurred at Appleby last night in which the largo dairy property of Mrs. Knight was completely destroyed. It was insured in the Australian Mercantile for £lOO. The origin is unknown. Last night a twelve-roomed house at Wakapuaka, belonging to W. Wastney, was burnt to the ground, together with the car-riage-house. Buildings were insured for £650 and the furniture for £650, both in the South British. A fire broke out yesterday afternoon in a seven-roomed house in Brook Street, owned and occupied by W. Locky, cab proprietor, during the absence of the family. The upper rooms ware completely destroyed, but the lower ones were saved. The furniture from the latter was got out. The building was insured for £l5O in the South British, and the furniture for £lOO in the Australian Mercantile.
