[reuter’s telegrams.] CRICKET.—AUSTRALIANS v. SURREY. London, May 20. The cricket match, Australians v. Surrey, was resumed to-day, at the Oval. The Englishmen, being 98 behind their opponents in the first innings, had to follow on, and in their second innings succeeded in putting together 144 runs; Diver 25, Maurice Read 28, and Bowden 32, were the highest. The Australians, requiring 47 runs to win, obtained the same with the loss of only two wickets, and thus won by eight wickets. Bannerman was bowled for 24. The weather was splendid throughout the day, and there was again a large attendance, great interest having been taken in the match. [Per Press Association.] INTER-COLONIAL FOOTBALL MATCH. Wellington, May 21. Owing to the boisterous weather to-day, and the greasy nature of the ground, the match against the New Zealand football team did not take place, and the team had a run into the country instead. The match will be played to-morrow, commencing at 1.30 p.m., and the Sydney steamer will be detained until the conclusion of the match. OAMARU RACES. Oamaru, May 22. District Handicap. — Barbary, Kareara, Mokareawa, Mokarakara, Trapper, Little Jack, Blackbird, Tommy, and Gossip.
