When Dubufe’s celebrated paintings of Adam and Eve were on exhibition, Mr. M‘Nab was taken to see them, and was asked for his opinion. ‘ I think no great thing of the painter,’ said the great gardiner. ‘ Why Eve’s temptin’ Adam wi’ a pippin of a variety that wasna known until about twenty years ago!’
