[Reuter’s Telegrams.] THE ORIENTAL BANK FAILURE. INDEBTED £411,000 TO THE VICTORIAN GOVERNMENT. Melbourne, May 9. It has transpired that the Oriental Bank is indebted to tbe Victorian Government for £195,000 on loan account, £185,000 on fixed deposit, £1,400 on current account, and £30,000 in drafts. Mr. Service, the^,Premier, has written to the associated banks contending that they are all jointly liable for any deficiency in the public account that may arise by the failure of the Oriental Bank. No reply to Mr. Service’s letter has yet been received. Sydney, May w The New South Wales Government have decided to take steps to recover the amounts due to the public account by the Orienta Bank.
