Congress has rejected the Tariff Bill, in which provisions had been made for a reduction to the extent of 20 per cent in the Customs duties of numerous articles, including wool and woollen goods. Several heavy private bank failures have occurred in New York. The well-known firm of Grant and Co. (Baron Grant) being partners in the insolvent concerns.
