(revter’s telecihams.) THB CONFERENCE ON EGYPTIAN AFFAIRS. London, May 1. In the House of Commons to-day, Mr. Gladstone announced that the French Government had accepted the proposal to hold a conference on Egyptian affairs, but required that there should be an exchange of views between England and France beforehand as to the subjects to be discussed. Mr. Gladstone further stated that the Turkish Government had not yet replied to the proposal, but that the other European Governments have accepted the same. THE NEW BISHOP. The Rev. Sydney Linton, the newly-ap-pointed Bishop of Riverina, New South Wales, was consecrated to-day at St. Paul’s Cathedral, with the customary ceremony. ARREST OF A FENIAN CENTRE. A man named Macdonell, who is known to be a centre of the present Fenian organisation, has been arrested at Wednesbury, Staffordshire. May 8, A NEW K.G. Earl Derby, Secretary of State for the Colonies, has been created a Knight of the Garter. THE EGYPTIAN QUESTION. Despatches regarding the Soudan were laid before both Houses of Parliament. Among the latest is one from Lord Granville to Major-general Gordon, dated April 23rd, instructing the latter to state what force would be required to effect a rescue of the garrisons at Khartoum and other towns in the Soudan that are invested by the Arab rebels. DYNAMITERS IN SPAIN. The police have effected the arrest at Barcelona of an anarchist in whose possession a large quantity of dynamite was found. The prisoner has since confessed that he intended to have used the explosives for destroying the railway line. THE TONQUIN QUESTION. Paris, May 3. Si Fing Pas, the present Chinese Envoy at Berlin, has been appointed to replace the Marquis Tseng, as ambassador to the French Government, and will at once open parleying with the view to a pacific solution of the Tonquin difficulty.
