(reuteb’s telegrams.) THE BECXDIVISTE QUESTION. London, April 22. In the House of Commons last night, Lord E. Fitzmaurice stated, in reply to a question, that no note had yet been received from the French Government regarding the Recidiviste Bill. The Daily Telegraph, recommends that the Government should organise a cordon around New Caledonia for the protection of the Australian Colonies and the Pacific Islands, if France persists in deporting criminals there. ALARMING EARTHQUAKE. A very severe shock of earthquake was experienced this morning over the eastern counties of England. The shake lasted fully thirty seconds, and caused considerable alarm, Great damage has been done to the buildings in several towns, and at Colchester, in Essex, the spire of a church has been thrown down. So far as is known, no loss of life has occurred. THE CRICKETERS. Boyle, Midwinter, and Alexander arrived to-day, and the rest of the Australian cricketers will arrive on Monday next. The team will again take up their quarters at the Tavistock Hotel, Covent Garden. In addition to the matches already arranged, one has now been fixed to take place at Liverpool towards the end of June.
