[by electric telegraph —COPYßlGHT.] [Reuter’s Telegrams.] THE MARCHIONESS OF NORMANBY. Melbourne, April 17. The Marquiss and Marchioness of Normanby, together with their suite, leave to-day by the Orient steamship Liguria for Sydney, and proceed thence by the out-going American mail steamer.
April 18. The Hon. Sir William Foster Stanwell, Chief Justice of Victoria, will administer Government until the arrival of Sir Henry Lock, who has been appointed to succeed the Marquis of Normanby. THE LATE RAILWAY CATASTROPHE. The official inquiry into the recent disastrous railway collision near Little River Station, was opened to-day. The evidence taken was of a formal nature. THE POSTMASTER-GENERALSHIP. Brisbane, April 18. The Hon. J. F. Garrick has been appointed to succeed Thomas Archer as Agent-General for Queensland in London. The PostmasterGeneralship, which thereby becomes vacant, has not as yet been filled.
