(reuter’s telegrams.) THE QUEEN’S JOURNEY. London, April 17. Her Majesty the Queen has arrived safely at Darmstadt. CONSERVATIVE SUCCESS. April 18. Harris (sic) a Conservative candidate was elected yesterday by an increased majority, as representative for Poole constituency, vacated by the death of Chatles Schnieber, a Conservative. THE RECIDIVESTE QUESTION. It has transpired that a Note has been addressed by M. Ferry, the French Premier and Foreign Minister, to the English Government on the subject of the Recidiviste question. M. Ferry re-affirms the opinion of his Government, that the question of the transport of criminals in the matter of policy alone, and in no way concerns any foreign power. COLONIAL AFFAIRS. Sir William Vernon Harcourt, Home Secretary, addressed his constitutents at Derby last evening. In the course of his speech he took occasion to say that he entirely disagreed with the opinion recently expressed by Earl Roseberry at Dundee, that the Government manifested a want of interest in Colonial affairs. DISASTROUS FIRE.—TREMENDOUS LOSS OF PROPERTY. Calcutta, April 17. Telegrams are to hand from Rangoon reporting that a disastrous fire has occurred there, tremendous loss of property having resulted. AUSTRIA AND TURKEY. Constantinople, April 17. Archduke Rudolph, Prince Imperial of Austria, has arrived in this city on a visit to the Sultan. His Highness was accorded a splendid reception.
