(REUTER’S TELEGRAMS.) THE QUEEN’S JOURNEY. London, April 15. The Queen started to-day for Hesse-Darm-stadt, Germany. It is announced that Baron de Staal has been appointed Russian Minister at the Court of St. James, vice Baron Mohrenheim. The greater portion of the cargo of frozen meat, ex Garrone, is in a bad condition, but the balance, which was in good order, realised 6d. per lb. The homeward mails, per Lusitiana, dated Melbourne March 8, was delivered here, via. Brindisi, to-day. THE IMPERIAL GOVERNMENT AND THE COLONIES. April 16. In the course of an address at Dundee last evening, Lord Roseberry referred at length to his recent visit to Australia, and expatiated upon the importance of preserving and strengthening the bond of union between the Australian Colonies and England. His Lordship expressed surprise at the want of interest in Colonial affairs which was manifested by the Imperial Government, and contrasted the apathy of England with the activity which France is now displaying in its Colonial policy. Sir Michael Costa, the eminent musician, is seriously indisposed. The Duke of Buccleuch, who has been in a critical state of health for some time past, died yesterday, aged 28 (?) Cairo, April 16. Intelligence to hand from General Gordon dated the Bth inst., reports that the Sheikh Auzier had submitted to him, and that dissensions having arisen among the tribes at Kordofan, El Mahdi had been compelled to abandon his projected expedition to Khartoum. General Gordon further states that information has reached him that the garrisons at Vassala and Senneer arc safe.
