Our Drainage.—The heavy shower of rain which set in shortly after two o’clock to-day showed the defective drainage of our main road. Shipping News.—The Southern Cross leaves Auckland to-night for this port, and is expected about Friday morning. The Ringarooma will also arrive on Friday about noon, as she will leave Auckland to-morrow. On Sunday the Waihora may be looked for from Melbourne and Southern Ports. The Mania left this port this afternoon for Napier.
The Proposed Railway.—During the sitting of the Borough Council last night the Board went into Committee on the proposed railway scheme, in order to consider the communication re the question from the County Council, and after a long and animated discussion several resolutions were passed, the whole of which were fatal to steam railways through the town. A report of the proceedings will appear as soon as possible.
