(renter’s telegrams.) THE LATE DUKE OF ALBANY. London, April 3. Telegrams are to hand from Cherbourg announcing that the body of the late Duke of Albany was embarked at that port to-day for‘England. His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales proceeded with the steamer. GREAT FIRE.—ENORMOUS DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY. A most disastrous fire occurred to-day in Paternoster Row. It raged for fully five hours, resulting in the destruction of several houses and immense damage to property. The loss will, it is expected, prove something enormous. The premises destroyed were occupied by Pardon and Sons (printers), Fandel, Phillips and Co., and Benjamin Williams’ new warehouse. Consols have further advanced an eighth, and are to-day quoted at 102 f. The market rate of discount has declined by an eighth, and is now seveneighths below the bank rate. Three per cent. New Zealand securities remain at yesterday’s quotations. Adelaide wheat, ex store, remains at 435.; New Zealand ditto, 355. to 415.; Adelaide flour, ex store, remains at 295. Australian tallow unchanged. The second of this year’s series of wool sales opens on Tuesday, the 29th inst. No limit has at present been placed on the quantity to be offered. The Bank of South Australia has declared a dividend for the last half year at the rate of seven per cent, per annum, together with a bonus equal to ss. per share, and also carries £7,000 to the reserve fund. The bank rate of discount has been reduced to 2| per cent. Sydney, April 4. Showers of rain which have been greatly needed for some time past, have been experienced here, and the fall has been pretty general in the country districts. Brisbane, April 4. The Revenue Returns for the quarter ended 31st March were published to-day. The revenue for the quarter amounted to £590,000, being an increase of £34,500 compared with the corresponding period of last year. The land revenue for the three months shows a decrease of £36,500, but the receipts from all other sources have improved.
