Standing Over.—On account of the pressure on our space, occasioned by the lengthy reports which appear in another place, and which will no doubt prove of paramount interest to our readers, we are compelled to hold over our leading matter and several items until our next issue. Te Anau.—The Te Anau will arrive from the South to-morrow morning at daylight. The first boat will leave the wharf at 5.30, and the last one at 10 o’clock sharp. For the South.—The p.s. Manaia will leave here for Napier on Wednesday. Inquest.—An inquest was held to-day at Waerenga-a-hika, on the late fire at Sullivan’s house. The Election.—Mr. Rees has now definitely announced his intention to contest the scat for this district. Te Kooti.—We hearthat Te Kooti is about to take up his residence at the Wairoa, and that a house is in process of building for him. Requisition to Mr. S. Locke.—We are pleased to hear that a requisition is on foot and being numerously signed by a number of our most influential electors, asking Mr. Locke to stand for this district. This must, of course, be most flattering to that gentleman as a mark of confidence, and it is needless to say that he will have much pleasure in responding to their wishes. Gas Company’s Tenders for Bricks.—At a meeting of the directors to-day Messrs. D. Hepburn’s tender for the supply of 30,000 was accepted, his bricks being of superior quality. Carlaw Smith and Co’s., Sale.—The attendance at the sales to-day were good, and the prices tolerably satisfactory. South Pacific Petroleum Co. — The manager of the above Company notifies that the ordinary general meeting will be held in Sydney on the 30th inst. for the purpose of electing directors, etc. The share transfer books will be closed from the 16th to the 30th inst. Loyal Gisborne Lodge.—The ordinary meeting of this lodge are -held fortnightly, commencing on Wednesday next, the 9th. Tenders.—Mr. John Craig, agent for the N.Z.L. and Mercantile Co., notifies that tenders for the erection of brickwork premises will be received up to the 12th inst. Porter’s Hall.—This hah will be available for dancing during the wintei months.
