Dr. Barry before his departure for Sydney. In a Gazette issued this evening, Sunday next, the 6th inst, is proclaimed a day of general mourning throughout the Colony for the death of prince Leopold. The proposed banquet to His Excellency has now been abandoned. (Received April 1, 12.40 p.m.) Sydney, April 1. Arrived, yesterday— Ringarooma, from Auckland. DISTRESSING DROUGHT. In consequence of the prevailing drought, the water supply to the city and suburbs of Sydney is now merely intermittent. Accounts from the country districts generally state that great distress prevails owing to the want of water. There is at present no sign of rain. WAR IN NEW GUINEA. News is to hand from New Guinea to the effect that the inland tribes there are engaged in a fierce war, and that the Rev. Mr. Charmers has proceeded to the scene of hostilities to endeavor to restore peace.
