[Per United Press Association.] Wellington, March 14. A consignment of salmon trout ova arrived by the lonic yesterday. TWO DEATHS FROM DROWNING. Two sailors of the steamer Koronui have been drowned in Cook’s Strait through the breaking of a rope attached to the gangway on the ship’s side where they were working. Mr. Purvis, Chief Engineer of the lonic, brought out ten robins to the Acclimatisation Society. FOUND DEAD. Dunedin, March 13. An inquest was held on the deady body found in a ditch on Mr. Logan’s prope ty ai Greensvale, Tapanui, and a verdict “ That the deceased died from a fit of apoplexy ” was returned. His name is unknown, and it appears that he got employment from Mr. Logan on the 22nd ult., at making a ditch about a mile from the station. On Sunday he came to the station under the influence of liquor, and left next morning for his work. The body was found by a young man named Mayer, lying face downwards in the ditch, and there were no evidences of any struggle. March 14. At the Harbor Board meeting yesterday ft was reported that to carry out the erection of the necessary wharfage, dredging, &c., at Dunedin, to accommodate the Union Co.’s steamers if brought up as proposed, would cost £48,478. It was agreed only to prepare plans for the proposed wharfage in the mean, time, the estimated cost being £12,800. FATAL ACCIDENT. A 1 lan Campbell, a settler, has been killed by the wheel of a dray (out of which he fell) passing over him. He leaves a family of twelve. ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. Wanganui, March 13. Joseph Peebles, who attempted suicide by taking “ Rough on Rats,” has been committed for trial at the Supreme Court. DOCTORS DIFFER. Hokitika, March 13. When the trial of John Donoghue, for murder, began his counsel pleaded that the prisoner was insane. A jury was sworn to determine the question of sanity. Drs. King and Hector expressed their belief that the man was insane ; Drs. Ivey and Rossetti that he was sane, while Drs. Morice and Clarke found no symptons of insanity, but declined, in the short time given, to decide definitely. The jury found prisoner was sane, and the trial then proceeded. SENTENCED TO DEATH. March 14. Sentence of death has been passed on Donoghue for murder. CONVICTION FOR FORGERY. Oxmaru, March 12.

A fire broke out this morning about three o’clock in Pascoe’s oyster saloon by which the whole place was comp’etely gutted. The inmates got out through the back window. The cause of the fire is unknown. The building was insured for £2OO in the Norwich Union and £2OO iu the Australian Mutual, and the furniture for £5O ia each office. SUICIDE BY POISONING. Masterton, March 12. A girl named Eliza Hercock, aged 15, committed suicide at Tauevu on Monday by taking arsenic. She concealed the cause of her illness till the following day when a doctor was sent for, but she died immediately after his arrival. The supposed cause is a trumpery disagreement with her brother. SHOCKING DEATH. Auckland, March 14. A young daughter of John Carr, at Woodside, fell from a cart, the wheel of which passed over her body. She died in an hour. ROTORUA RAILWAY. At the second annual meeting of the shareholders of the Thames Valley and Rotorua Railway (Dr. Campbell presiding) the report showed the expenditure to be £31,640, and the receipts (including the amount of seven calls), £26,307, and the bank overdraft £5,233. Calls to the extent of £12,744 are still unpaid. AN EXTRAORDINARY IMPOSTOR. A clerical impostor, Dr. Roberts, alias Cecil Johnston, was arrested yesterday. His career of swindling is a perfect romance. DOUBLE MURDER. Christchurch, March 14. s£At Heathcote a woman named Royal has drowned her baby and a boy aged 21 years in the liver. It is supposed she is deranged. She has been arrested. Pillow, a commission agent, has disappeared, and co, it is stated, have rents he had collected.
