J BATTERY N. Z. ARTILLERY.
EASTER FETE a la SWISS. A well-attended meeting of the members of this corps took place last night in the orderly* room, Custom House Street. Captain Winter, having been called to the chair, explained that the object of the meeting was to organise a carbine tournament, a la Swiss, for Easter. It is intended to have as large a number of prizes as possible, and, with this view, the tradesmen of the town will be asked to contribute any miscellaneous articles to the prize list. It is also proposed to have a district trophy competition, to be fired for by a team which shall represent this district at the next Association meeting. The County and Borough Councils will be asked to head the trophy list. It is proposed to have rotatory and running-deer targets, at which flying-shots will be taken; together with five-balloon and a miscellaneous programme of sports. The following gentlemen were appointed as an organising committee-.—Captain T. W. Porter (commanding the district), Major H. J. Finn, Captain Kennv, Sergeant-Major Featon, Corporal Pavitt, ana Gunners Warren, Hanson, Allom, Ledger, Whitby, Faram, Turton, and O’Meara. After a considerable amount of desultory discussion it was resolved to adjourn the matter until Saturday evening at 7.80. In order to give an opportunity to those members who have been nominated as sergeants for practising drill, with a view of presenting themselves for examination on the 11th of next month, tbe members have arranged to meet every Thursday evening. The usual vote of thanks to the chairman closed the meeting.
