(better’s telegrams.) Melbourne, Feb. 25. The Waihora arrived from the Bluff yesterday. The Argus to-day publishes telegrams confirming the news of the collision between the Wairarapa and the Adelaide. They state that the Wairarapa “ threw the gauntlet” to the Adelaide to race. The damage sustained by the latter vessel is very slight. Adelaide, Feb. 25. ■ The Orient s.s. John Elder, with the mails (via Suez and Brindisi) which left London on Jan. 18, arrived here on Saturday. [Per Press Association.] Auckland, Feb. 25. The barque St. Laurance, from Sydney to Puget Sound, Oregon, put in here yesterday. Capt. Webster reports that he left Sydney on Jan. 30, in ballast. He met with a heavy gale on Feb. 8. The ballast shifted and the vessel went on her beam-ends and took in water. The pump refused duty and the vessel was in a perilous condition till the 12th, when the gale abated. The vessel is apparently severely strained, and will probably be docked here. The ship Kreimhilda (Johnson) has arrived, 74 days from London. Rigno, for Suwaroow ; Kalo McGregor, for Rurubia.
