The next boat from Oamaru to Gisborne will be leaving the former place about the end of the month. Yesterday morning the Government steamer Stella was engaged laying a buoy over rocks in the Bay, and took her departure in the evening northward. We must be thankful for small mercies, and trust that this paternal notice of the Government is the forerunner of more important favors. The Southern Cross called in at Tuparoa and landed the new pipes for the oil wells, and arrived in the Bay at 4 p.m. yesterday afternoon, She proceeded South late last night.
