AUSTRALIAN.
[BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT.] [Reuter’s Telegrams.] Melbourne, Jan. 31. A reporter of the Australasian, who has visited the agricultural districts, says no damage has been done to the wheat by the inclement weather which of late has been experienced. At their wool - sale this week Messrs. Goldsborough and Co. (Limited) sold 1,100
bales at excellent prices. Greasy wool realised up to lid, and scoured up to 21|d. There was a large attendance, and brisk competition was experienced, (Iteoelved Jan. 31, 3.30 p.m.) A meeting of the residents of the Riverina district, lying between the Murray and the Murrimbidgee Rivers, forming part of New South Wales, will be held here to-morrow, for the purpose of considering the question of separation from New South Wales, which has been advocated at meetings held at other places. Sydney, Jan. 30, A largely-attended demonstration took place last night in opposition to the immigration policy of the Government. It was decided to present a monster position to Parliament praying for a cessation of the immigration. The scheme of taxation set forth in the Treasurer’s recent Budget statement is being warmly criticised, and opposition to the proposals is daily increasing.
