At the sale to-day of the New Zealand Stud and Pedigree Company’s yearlings, nine were sold and three withdrawn. The total realised was 2,500 guineas. The highest price paid was 1,200 guineas by the Hon. James White for the Musket—Onyx colt. The principal buyers were Messrs. White, Fennally, Long, and Kelso. The average obtained for the nine horses sold was 277 guineas. (Received Jan. 29, 4.20 p.m.) Melbourne, Jan. 29. The weights for the Newmarket Handicap and Australian Cup, to be held at the V.R.C. Autumn Meeting in March, have been declared. For the Handicap, Fryingpan is top weight with lOst. 81b. For the Cup, Commotion heads the list with lOst. 51b.; MartiniHenri’s weight is Bst. 121 b. (Received Jan. 29th, 2 p.m.) (Delayed in transmission between Sydney and New Zealand.) Sydney, Jan. 29. The cricket match between the Australian Eleven and Fifteen of New South Wales was resumed to-day. The Eleven continued their first innings, which closed for 272, and the stumps were then drawn for the day. The following are the scores : — Fifteen New South Wales, first innings, 364. Australian Eleven, first innings — Bannerman, b, 1; McDonnell, c, 47; Murdoch, c, 52 ; Giffen, b, 21 ; Bonnor, b, 6 ; Midwinter, b, 43 ; Blackliam, run out, 6; Alexander, b, 12 ; Palmer, c, 11; Boyle, not out, 44 ; Cooper, b, 15. Extras, 14. Total, 272.
