[Per Electric Telegraph—Copyright.] [Reuter’s Telegrams.] London, Jan. 25, The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England has advanced to £12,700,000, an increase of £600,000 during the week. The proportion of reserve to liabilities remains at 42 per cent. The bank rate of discount is unchanged at 8 per cent., and the market rate at 2 J per cent. Consols are 101$, and New Zealand securities as follow:—5 per cent. 10-40 loan, 105 ; « per cent, 1889 loan, 105 J; per cent. >879-1904, 191|; 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 100. | The markets for colonial breadstuffs and fellow are unaltered, Australian hides are lull, and the market without notable change. Hong Kong, Jan. 25. ■ News is to hand from Hoihow, a coast town on the Hin Chow Peninsula, that the Chinese have assumed an anti-foreign attitude, The houses of several European residents have been attacked and pillaged, and the inmates have taken refuge at the Consulate. The Chinese officials have taken steps to repress the outbreak, and it is expected wider will soon be restored.
