(Limited) catalogued 2,100 bales, being mostly scoured wool. There was a large attendance of Home and foreign buyers. Little change was experienced in the market, which con. tumen fairly active, and competition was welj maintained, with good wools anxiously desired. 1,000 bales were sold and 200 withdrawn. The Hotomahana, from the Bluff, and the P. & O, Riverina (with Gondon mails via Suez and Brindisi to Deo. 14) arrived yesterday morning. „ , . , „ Sydney, Jan. 26. The Colonial Treasurer, Mr. Dibbs, made his Financial Statement last night. He esti. mated the revenue for the present year at £7,640,000. A million of new revenue having to be provided to meet the falling off fa land receipts, he announced that a property tax of a penny fa the pound would be levied, which is expected to yield £750,000, and a revision of the tariff would be necessary, providing for increases in the duties on tea, tobacco, sugar, timber, spirits, dtc. Mr. Dibbs said the present Free Trade policy would not be affected by these increases. The statement was well received by the House generally, Disastrous bush fires have been raging yesterday and to-day in the neighborhood of Newcastle, and have caused great destruction to settlers’ property in the district. The Wakatipu arrived from Wellington yesterday morning, and the Bingarooma sailed for Auckland fa the afternoon.
