News is to hand from Zanzibar reporting that the coronation of Queen Ranovalo 111., of Madagascar, has been celebrated with great rejoicings. Patriotic speeches were delivered on the occasion by the newly-crowned Queen and by her Prime Minister, both of whom declared their determination to preserve xhe integrity of the kingdom against the French claims, and of refusing to yield an inch of territory at the demands of the besiegers. A violent storm passed over Great Britain last night. Many wrecks, attended with loss of life, have occurred, and several persons were killed by falling chimneys. The Orient s.s. Cuzco’s mails, dated Melbourne, Dec. 15, were delivered here, via Naples, yesterday. The P. and O. s.s. Indus arrived at Plymouth yesterday from Melbourne (Dec. 6). (Received Jan. 25, 2-30 p.m.) Cairo, Jan. 24. It has been definitely decided to relieve the beleagured garrisons of Sankat and Tokar without further delay, and active operations to that end are imminent. It has transpired that Colonel Gordon has been compelled to abandon the idea of proceeding to Khartoum by way of Souakim, on the Red Sea, owing to the roads by that route being in possession of the rebels. He has consequently decided to go via Korosko, a town on the Nile in North Nubia. This is actually the only road that is open. It is expected he will start on his mission in a day or two.
