President Kruger, of the Transvaal, has suggested a compromise in the matter of the modification of the frontier line as proposed by the British Government, in order that certain native chiefs might be afforded the protection of British rule, The sum of £20,000 has been withdrawn from the Bank for Anstralia. Consols remain at 101 j, and New Zealand securities as follows 5 per cent, 10'40 loan, 105; o per cent. 1880 loan, 103|; 4J per cent, 1879'1904 loan, lOlf; 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 99|. There are no changes in the markets for colonial produce. Hong Kong, Jan. 18. It has transpired that, yielding to British representations, the Chinese Government has suspended operations for blocking the Canton Rives with torpedoes.
