HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.
Tua ordinary monthly meeting o! the above Committee was held in the Courthouse last night. Present Messrs. Adair (in the chair), Dr. H. Pollen, E. K. Brown, and J. W. Nolan. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. MONTHLY KltroHl. , j The monthly report was then read, showing the number of admittances during the month five; discharged, six; remaining in the Hospital, two. The secretary remarked that no subscriptions had been received during the month. Mr. E. K. Brown moved the adoption of the report, which was carriod. Doctor Pollen explained that a misapprehension had got abroad through the papers that the seaman who had been admitted in the Hospital upon his order was suffering from a bad disease. Such was not the case. The man was 'suffering from a different disease altogether, and which necessitated an operation. The account would be paid by the ship's agents. thisasl'iusr’b report. Gisborne, Sth Jan., 1884. Since last meeting, I have received as fees from patients £8 10s. I have claimed upon Government for £4OO 14s. 4d., as subsidy, which should come to hand in about ten days. The amount that you have at your disposal for payment of accounts that may come before you this evening is £BB ss. Bd. I regret to say that I have not yet received the balance due from the late sports. I have not yet had any intimation of the result of the Ormond Sports, held under your auspices. It should be decided this evening how you intend to invest the £5OO, in accordance with resolution that such investment should be of a permanent nature. I would suggest that tenders be called for a mortgage for five years for the amount, minimum price ten per cent., and that the Trust Commissioners and Solicitor to the Borough Council be asked to negotiate the same. E. K. Brows. Dr. Pollen moved, aud Mr. McKay seconded the adoption of the report, and Messrs. Adair and Brown were authorised to find an investment for the money. TBSMBS. The following tenders were then opened for painting the Hospital:—G. Hall, £55 55.; Nash, £52 10s., F. Hah, £29. Mr. Nolan said the last item was surely a mistake. Mr. Finneran said the estimate was about £5O. Mr. McKay proposed, “ That the lowest tender be accepted.” Mr. E. K. Brown seconded. Carried. Mr. Nolan said Mr. Bobb had offered to superintend the painting for the sum of £l, Dr. Pollen said it did not seem a proper thing to put one tradesmen to look after anomer. The matter was left in the hands of Mr. Finneran. TAYMBSTB. Dr. Pollen, one quarter’s salary, £25 ; Mr. E. K. Brown, £2; W. Adair, £2 165.; Herald account, £2 3s. 9d.; Teat and Friar, £l5 Id.; Erskine, £2 14s. id.; Weston, 175.; Chrisp, £8 16s. Bd.; domestic, £8 55.; Aislabie, £7 ss. 10d.; Birch, £3 14s. The Chairman wished to know why Mr. Birch charged more for some boxes than for others. The account was passed, subject to Mr. Brown's approval. ALARM BELLS. Mr. Nolan stated that the two bells to the ward would cost £3 each, but if there was one put to each bed it could be done for 80s. each. ' It was finally decided to have a call-boll from each bed. BOT-AIB BATHS, A letter was read Mr. Aikes, advocating hot-air baths. The matter was deferred for further consideration, VIHITIXO OOMMXTTXK, There was a general complaint that the last Visiting Committee had not attended to their duties well. The following members were then appointed a Visiting Committee for the ensuing month; —Messrs. McKay, Nolan, and Adair. This concluded the business of the evening,
