[Pbb United Press Association.] Auckland, Jan. 7. Roclifort and his party, who have been exploring the route (or the North Island Trunk Railway, arrived at Kihikihi on Saturday. He reports to the Native Minister that he has. completed the exploration of the central line well to the westward of Tuhua, He states the line is good throughout. He heard from Natives that the exploring party under Carkeek had arrived at Otura river, flowing into the Upper Whanganui River. Carkeek had met with an impracticable country, but has received orders to labor at it till he gets through with the completion of his survey. The whole of the King Country will have been traversed by these survey parties. Thomas James North has been committed for trial for perjury and a breach of the Pawnbrokers’ Act. At the Criminal Session, Alfred Hyde, for forgery, has got three years. Dunedin, Jan. 7Mr. W. J. Spiers, of Dargaville, Auckland, formerly a first-prize taker for dancing at the Dunedin games, telegraphs his willingness to dance the Highland Fling with Donald Dinnie for £lO9. The evidence was that Mclntosh left Dunedin sober. A verdict of “ Accidental death ” was returned.
