[Rxuteb’s Tlegrams.] Melbourne, Jan. 4. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have resumed their series of wool auctions after the holidays. The catalogue yesterday comprised 4,000 bales, the bulk consisting of medium to inferior wools. There was a large attendance of buyers, and brisk competition was experienced. Choice and medium wools were in good demand, and prices were firmly maintained. Nearly all the lots were sold at satisfactory prices, but owing to the length of the catalogue the parcels of scoured and fleece have been held over until to-day. The Agricultural reporter of the Leader estimates the yield of wheat in Victoria for the present season at 14,900,000 bushels, or an average of 14} bushels to the aere. The quantity available for export is estimated at 8,150,000 bushels. The cricket-matoh between the Australian team and combined Australia was continued yesterday. Boyle not out and Murdoch not out (with 279) resumed their place at the wickets, but the former was soon bowled without scoring, the innings thus ending for 719 runs. The match has been drawn. Sydney, Jan. 4. The steamer Tomki returned to port re* porting that when 80 miles from the Heads it was found that a Are had broken out on board, and that one of the passengers had lost his life by suffocation. The Rotomahana for Auckland, and the City of Sydney for Auckland and San Francisco, both sailed yesterday. The New South Wales revenue for last quarter amounted to £1,860,000, being a decrease of £226,500 compared with the December quarter of 1882. The revenue for the year amounted to £6,480,000, a decrease of £942,000 compered with that for 1882. During the year the revenue from land de. creased by £1,040,000. Advices from Mauritius to December 15, have been received here. Messrs. Ireland, Fraser & Co.’s circular reports the following clearances of sugrr to New Zealand porta: Lyttelton 257 tons, Port Chalmers 238, Aucklrnd 237, Wellington 400. Loading for Dunedin, 900 tons. Freight to New Zealand, 40s. Adelaide, Jan 4, The approximate revenue returns show a large falling off in the receipts from several sources. The Customs duties are expected to be £40,000 below the estimate. The P. and O. s.s. Carthage arrived in King George’s Sound on Wednesday with tha English mails dated November 30. Hobabt, Jan. 4. The Earl and Countess of Roseberry are now on a visit to this colony. Brisbane, Jan. 4. The Queensland revenue for last quarter amounted to £646,000, an increase of £139,500 compared with the last quarter of 1882. The increases are chiefly in Customs, Land and Bailway revenue.
