LAST NIGHTS WIRES.
[Per United Press Association.] Wellington, Dee. 21. At the Magistrate’s Uuuix to-day, David Maurice Pomeroy, fourth officer of tue Kutornauana, was charged with assaulting a seaman named PatriuE Uamerfurd. lhe accused denied the offence. -Evidence given by the informant and two others showed that shortly alter six o’clock this morning the men were employed in washing down the decks, when an altercation ensued as to lifting of sheep, Lite result being boat the fourth mate struck lhe prosecutor twice in the eye. The accused admitted that he hud struck the man once, Uaiijuriord having provoked him by striking him in the ejc. A Hue of £2 and costs was imposed,
