THE LONGEST AND HIGHEST BRIDGES OF THE WORLD.
The longest viaduct in the world bull I of stone is that which connects Venice with the mainland. Its length is about two miles and a quarter. The longest iron bridges in the world are the following Parkersburg Bridge, one mile and a third ; St. Louis Bridge over the Mi-soiiri, about a mile and a quarter ; the bridge over the Ohio at Louis -, about a mile ; East Kiver Bridge, New York ; Delaware Bridge, Philadelphia ; the Victoria Bridge at Montreal; the Volga Bridge at
.Sysran ; and the Moerdyk Bridge in I'Tolland —the five latter all being r ather under a mile. The loftiest b ridge is in France. It is the Garab it iro n bridge in the department of C’anta 1, but will not be ready for 0 , yelling until next yer. It stands at st ich a height that the Vendome C olnmn on the top of the Cathedral of Notre Dame could stand under it, it, i height above the valley being 406 fe et. This is 72 feet higher than the K inzua Viaduct in America.— The B uilder.
