[Per United Press Association.] Wellington, Dec. 5. The four recently-appointed assignees in bankruptcy had a conference here yesterday with the Hon. Mr Connolly, and a detailed mode of procedure in connection with their new offices was determined upon. The Westport Coal Company’s third new steamer, the Waratea, Captsin Gill, from Glasgow, via Hobart, arrived at Westport yesterday. She brings machinery for the We»tport and Greymouth mines. The Agent-General cables, under date, London, Dec. 3, the departure of the steamer Bombay for Port Chalmers, with 300 immigrants f»r < >tago. At the Appeal Court to-day, judgments were given in the following cases :—Wellington Corporation v. Roberts, judgment for defendant. Aruni Wata v. Grice (Auckland) ; appeal dismissed, with costs on highest scale. Mr Bell applied for and obtained leave to appeal to the Privy Council. In Russell v. Sheehan (Jlapier), three separate judgments were read. Justice Johnston was of opinion that the appeal ought to be dismissed with costs, while Justices Gillies and Williams thought the decree of the Court below should be affirmed. 'I he judgment was acc udingly affirmed. In Stone v. Atkinson (Auckland), the appeal was dismissed, with costs, to be awarded on
highost scale. Leave was given to anneal to the Privy Council. Auckland, Dec. 5. H.M.B. Lark has arrived here from acinise and the Union steamship Penguin from F 'ji. 1 he position of the Triumph is unchanged. The foundation-stone of the Salvation Army Barracks was laid by Mrs Hampson yesterday. Over £l5O was placed on the stone. Timaru, Dec. 4. The Minister of Public Works, after visiting Albury and Fairlie Creek railway ■ Lie and proceeding through Burke’s Pass to the Mackenzie Country, left for Oamaru last night. Christchurch, Dec. 4. The body found iu the Waimakariri River has been identified as that of a Mr Rhodes, connected with a Poverty Biy settler.
