GISBORNE ROWING CLUB.
A special general meeting of the above club was held at the Masonic Hotel on Saturday evening. Present—Messrs Cresswell, Webb, Sage, O’Meara, Gibbons, Morrow, Jamieson, Bourne, Watson, Vennell, Brown, Bullen, Ward, Jackson, Pavitt, Ratcliffe, Barnes, Boylan, and Isles. The minutes of the previous meeting were then read and confirmed. Election or New Members. The following new members were then proposed by Mr Creswell, and seconded by Mr Watson, and unanimously elected :— Messrs Sherrat, Barnard, Webb, L. Rees, McDougall, McDonald, A. McKay, Hanna, A. R. Wyllie and Grossman ; and Messrs McArthur, H. J. Finn, Matthewson, and 8. Stevenson hon. members. COBBBSPONDENOE. A letter was read from Mr E. A. Pavitt, tendering his resignation. The Captain, Mr Ratcliffe, said he must express his deep regret at losing Mr P The club coula ill afford to lose such a member. The cause of this action on the part of Mr Pavitt was that he had been misinformed as to the time at which the boats would start on the opening day, and when he had arrived at the boat shed they were away. This had annoyed him so much that he had sent in his resignation. After numerous expressions of regret on the pirt of a number of members, it was proposed by Mr Morrow and seconded by Mr Jamieson, that the matter be held over for the present, and that Mr Pavitt be asked to reconsider his decision.
The Captain explained to the meeting that all the boats had been repaired, with the exception of the old Mermaid, and that arrangements had been made to replace the old stage with one which would admit of toats being launched at all states of the tides.
Attention was also called to the fact that boats had been taken and kept out too long without being entered up in the book kept for that purpose according to by-laws No. 4 and 9. The Captain said this had been the cause of much complaint, and he trusted it would not occur again. Payments. The following accounts were then passed
for payment— Swanson 4 Co. repairing and] fixing boats, £lB 17s ; Parnell 4 Boy Un J 7s | freight, 4s fid j Dufaur. 4 Co. 18s) Webb and Mogridge, £1 4s ;H. Fraser, 8s i U. tt. C. Webb, 7s fid. Total, £l7 18s fid. . . The Treasurer informed the meeting thnJt a balance of £ll 4s would remain in hand after paying all the above accounts; and also a balance of about £2O for Subscriptions to come in yet. A cheque for £54 had also been forwa -ded to Mr Edwards on account of the new boats, leaving a balance of £lO remaining due.

Monday. It was resolved that a list of members who are eligible, having paid their subscriptions; to use the boats bo hung up in the shed. An unanimous vote of thanks was posted IS the Volunteer band for their Services oh the opening day ; to Mr Edmonds for ths use of the Snark ; to the ladies, and all thOH who so kindly assisted at the opening oerox mony. The following are the crews selected for trial fours, to take place on the 30th inst i— No. I—Ratcliffe, stroke ; G. Morrow, 8; V. G. Day, 2; and W. Rees, bow. No. 2— E. H. Pavitt, stroke ; Bourke, 8 ; Allom, 2 j and Vennell, bow. No. 3—Barnes, stroke ; Gibbons, 3 ; Sage, 2 ; and Brown, bow. No. 4—Jackson, stroke ;C. C. Ward, 3; Bullen, 2 ; and A. Webb, bow.
