VITAL STATISTICS.

The Registrar General’s Report for the month of September, gives the following vital statistics of the principal towns of New Zealand, showing the number of births with tle actual mortality of males and females, and the proportion of deaths to population in the undermentioned Boroughs :—

The deaths of persons not residents of the Boroughs, occuring at hospitals, have been excluded in all cases. The total births in the above boroughs amount to 453, against 535 in August, a decrease of 82. The deaths in September were 169, a decrease of 1 on the number for August. Of the above deaths males contributed 100 ; females, 690 ; of the deaths 79 were children under 5 years of age, being 46 75 per cent of the whole number ; 50 of these were children under 1 year of age-
