EAST COAST LETTER.

(From our own Correspondent)' UAW A, Oct. 27th, 1883. Things are still very quiet at Tologa, aud all along the coast. VVe are anxiously waiting for the sitting of the Land Court which is to commence ou the 12th of next month, and which is confidently expected to do much good to the district. Since my last there has been a cricket club formed at Tologa Bay, and I hope before long to see the Gisborne club send a team up to try conclusions with the young men of this place. The road* are beginning to look a little better now as they are getting hard and fit f'irtiaffia Mr McLend has finished his contract, u hich has given Universal "fttixfaction The County engineer has also been up and passed the work. It is very necessary that the County Council should do something to the approaches to the Tologa Bty ferry as they are so bad that both man and beast rnn a great risk of getting bogged whilst endeavouring to reach the punt at low water. Whilst on this subject I may as well inform you that the ironwork for working the punt across the river did not work quite so well as was expected, and therefore had to be sent hack toGitborno to be altered. The puut has now to be pulled backwards and forwards hy hand, which proves very slow and laborious.

The only other item of news is the commital for trial to the Supreme Court, of a •nan named McEwen, a cordial manufacturer for an unnatural offence.
