(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT), WELLINGTON, WednesdayHis Excel ency the Governor returned from New Plymouth ar noon to-day. At the inquest on the girl Alice Corrie, who died suddenly ou Saturday, the pust mortem examination showed that death resulted from natural causes, and a verdict in accordance therewith was returned.

By a landslip in the. tunnel on the Wellington and Johnsonville section uf the Wellington and Maiiawhatu railway, two men named John Enwright and Thomas O’Malley, were killed. The overseer of the works, John Scan ten, was also buried, but he was saved. When uncovered the unfortunate men were quite, dead, their bodies being fearfully mutilated, their arms aud legs being broken in several places. O’Maliy, who is aged about 25, is a single man, aud a recent arrival from London by the ship Oxford ; Euwright is also a single man, aged 30. An inquest will be held. The ship Westland arrived to-day, with immigrants, all well. DUNEDIN.

At Mosgiel early yesterday morning, Cornelius Presou committed suicide by cutting his throat with a penknife. Thu wound would not have been fatal if medical assistance could have been more promptly procured. He died from great loss of blood, lie was about 29 .years of age, and unmarried.

The body of a man was discovered yesterday floating in the river Heaihcote, between Ilea'hcoie and Sumner. it had apparency in the w-ter about two days The body has been identified as that of Brighton J. Olbver, formerly s ip steward. Ernest Oven, an apprentice on the ship Waikato, was picked up in the lower hold of that vessel on iMonday with his skull fractured, and one eye terribly damaged. It is thought that whilst walking about with his hands in his pockets he must have tripped over the combings of the hatch, and fell a distance of 14 feet, he was conscious when brought on deck, kud the doctor has hopes of his life. His father is G. W. Owen of Auckland.

ELLESMERE. The Agricultural and Pastoral Association held their annual Show at Leeston yesterday. There was a good attendance and fine weather, and the show was a general success. NEW PLYMOUTH.

An inquest on the body of a man found drowned in the Waitara river on Sunday, an open verdict was returned. Tnere was no evidence to show how the man came into the water, or what his name was.
