A great sensation has been caused in social and academical circles in Berlin by the suicide of Professor Stephen Zuputlit, private Professor of Political Economy at the University. He had recently received an appointment as extraordinary Professor at Halle University, and was actually engaged ,in preparations for his departure, when he committed the fatal act, at his own residence, by first severing the arteries of the throat, and then firing a pistol shot into his head. The causes which led to the unhappy circumstance are at present a mystery. The deceased, who was only 28 years of age, was married to a daughter of Count Flemming, the Prussian Minister at Carlsruhe. Swimming baths which are kept open all night, are patronised largely in New York.
