Hislop and Hoopers A.B.C New Zealand monthly time tabic and Diary has arrived to hand, and is as usual replete with most useful information. The false alarm given by the fire bell on Saturday morning, had the effect of causing 201ba of steam to be got up in 8 minutes. This proves that Mr R. xVloore is to be t loroughly relied on.

The conclusion of “ Turf Frauds Exposed ” i appears on pages 1 and 4. Aho, “ Skinny Men ” and other items. We have again to thank our courteous Postmaster, Mr. J. Shrimpton, for sorting the mails on Sunday.

Mr S. Stevenson’s fine entire horse, Prickwillow, excited much admiration during his parade through the town on Saturday. A timely use of Hop Bitters'will keep a whole family in robust health for a year, with very little care. Read.

Several residents at Matawhero have expressed their astonishment at the immense quantity of frogs to be reen this season. At night their noise is most remarkable.

The “Sable Orphans” held another successful rehearsal last night, at Messrs Ratcliffe and Ferris’ auction mart. We hear tnat their first performance will be in aid of the funds of the Turanganui Library.

The latest startling assertion made by an advertisement appearing elsewhere, is that a guide to the South Pacific Oil Springs guaranteed to do the journey in 43 hours is procurable. This wonderful time is assuredly the “ best on record.” Old Islesman, the steeplechaser, in his best days could not beat this.

The “Wairoa Guardian” says —By a Trust Commission advertisement in our third page, Captain Preece notifies that he will affix his certificate as Trust Commissioner to a Deed of Conveyance of the share of Tamati Maire in the Umumango No 2 block, to Daniel Page, in nine days from date of notification, if no objections are lodged in the interim. Mr Andrew Peters, with his usual commendable enterprise, has again commenced running on Ormond and Gisborne line of Royal Mail coaches twice daily each way. All orders, parcels, and luggage will receive prompt attention, and be carefully seen to. A coach will leave Ormond at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m ; and Gisborne at 10.30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Mr Peters has also saddle horses, single and double-seated buggies for hire at all times.

Mr W. Morley preached a most earnest sermon, at the Wesleyan Church, on Sunday, to a numerous and attentive audience. The object of this gentleman’s visit to Gisborne is to give lectures in aid of the Wesleyan Building Fund. It is the intention of the Wesleyan body to raise a permanent fund of £lO,OOO for the purpose of assisting, by loans, in the building of churches, paying off debts, &c. The money will be advanced, without interest, where found necessary, in certain sums, which will have to be paid back in a specified time. By this means the fund is calculated to be of immense advantage to the Weleyan community at large.

We have just received No. 20 of Mr Cecil Gardner’s Time Table, and North New Zealand Guide,” which is one of the most useful and cheapest publications in the Colony of New Zealand. It contains a most complete calendar for the month of October, visitors’ guide to the North Island, Hot Lakes, &c., railway time tables, postal towns, rates of postage, steam ferries, coastal itinery, telegraph guide, telegrams, commission on money orders, stamp duties, telephone exchange, Union Company’s fares aud time tables, mail time tables and all coach, buses, and fares ; and a quantity of most useful and instructive matter. We strongly recommend this little publication to our readers,

A sitting of the Native Lands Court will be held at Tologa Bay on the 12th of November next. There are a good number of original and subdivision claims to be dealt with. Several important blocks are set down for individualization. It is expected that His Honor Judge Brookfield will preside at Uawa. It does not appear that Judge Brookfield is likely to be allowed much rest from his judicial functions for some time to come. Early in the present week the celebrated Kaiti Block 4,J00 acres will come on for subdivision. Judge Brookfield has been so successful hitherto in carrying out the business of the Court that nothing is considered too difficult or complicated for His Honor to take in hand, and satisfactorily account for.
