Her Majesty has been pleased to direct that Sir Louis Malet, C. 8., permanent Under-Secretary at the India office, shall be sworn a member of the Privy Council. On the 25th of last July (H.R.H, the Duchess of Cambridge completed her 86th year, having been born on 25th July, 1797. Her Royal Highness had a dinner party on the anniversary evening, which, however, was confined to the members of Her Royal Highness’ family. During the the six months ending June 30th, there left the United Kingdom, for places out of Europe, 179,258 persons of British origin, 46,837 foreigners, and 1,287 persons whose nationality was not distingushed, the total being 227,282, a decrease of 20,768 as compared with the corresponding six months of 1882. A party of Greeks at Antakia attacked the house of an English missionary named Martin, because he converted ft Greek to Protestantism. Mr Martin was severely wounded. The Governor of Aleppo has ordered the arrest of the guilty parties, who ave known to the authorities, and are receiving shelter close to the town.
