VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE.
The first thorough practice of the newly, organised Fire Brigade took place last night, a Steam was up in less than eight minutes and water being thrown in ten. branches were then worked at full and the only effect this h - d was to lower water in the well about two inches, when A the water came in through the well pipes " " with a great rush. This being at extreme low proved thoroughly satisfactory. The exercise of shifting branches, hoses, &c., was continued for upwards of an hour. After calling over the roll, Captain Winter t<ldressed a few words to the Brigade, stating that they must not be discouraged at the wet and dirty practice, as the next one should be a dry one. The men complained ■ hat they wanted their uniforms, anti stated that the blucher boots would be useless. What they wanted was half Wellingtons.
