Hundreds of rockntß were discharged in all direction, many flying int<> »he streets and causing ghat havoc to houses and other property. The explosion at the rocket factory, Wool* wich, continued for upwards of an hour, Some of the rockets* travelled for miles, but in the majority of cases little or no damage was done ny them. It is believed that the expl 'sion of the fact >ry was accidental. Telegrams which .have been received from £anqibar report that fighting has taken place between the H- »vaa and French troops in Madagascar The former made an attack in force on the position occupied by the French, on the West Coast of the Island, and after stubborn fighting lasting several hours, the French were driven from their position, with considerable loss. CAPETOWN, September Intelligence received from Transvaal states that two Native chiefs, named Mapoch and Mam peer, leaders of ths rebellion against the Boers in the early part of this year, and who were subsequently made prisoners, have been tried at Pretoria and sentenced to death.
