POVERTY BAY AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.

PARADE UF SIKES. The Annual Parade of Entires took place on Saturday in the VVaikanae paddock. in spite of the weather being all that could be desired the attendance was very limited. There were but eight animals paraded, these being as follow -.— Bothwell, owners Messrs. Cooper and Thorpe ; Eagle, Mr J. Allen ; Maroro, Mr A. Pritchard ; Young Glasgow, Mr Boland ; sir Julius Vogel, Mr R. Austin; Monastigon, Mr G. L Sunderland; Auckland, Mr XV. I’oulgrain; and Bismarck, Mr Knox. Bothwell looked in splendid form, lull of life and action, and commanded a fair share of attention—Eagle too looked well, though scarcely up to Bothwell, whi-st Maroro, though s nail, show; d some very fine points and seemed full of go and life. Of the draught stock Mr Julius Vogel. Monastigon, and Auckland, seemed to receive the largest amount of attention, but Youn. Glasgow and Bis.narck also looked in splendid condition. Though the exhibits were poui in point of nil nbers, yet the animals shown were fully up to the mark of former seasons. ANNUAL MEETING. The Annual Meeting of the above Society was held in the Masonic Hotel on Saturday afteruooi. Present Messrs Ferris, Johnson, C nmon, B oomtieid, Page, H. Davis, Matthewson, C. Davis, L'ut<*>hen, Hall, V\. >llll'h, J. W. ,<b • id. H ire, J. Allen. P. Bond, and Agnew Brown, etc. iue iniuuwio ui tiiu iaai> auuual meeting was then read and confirmed. Annual Report. Mr Ferris then read the annual report of the Committee as follows :— “ Your Committee has the satisfaction to report that the Society is in a fairly prosperous and healthy condition. “ The show that toOK place on the 25th of October last, was not so successful as that oi •he previous year, both as regards the number and qualities of the exhibits, and the attendance of the public, owing doubtless to the very unfavourable state of the weather. “ Most of the judges were obtained from Auckland and Napier, aud their awards gave general satisfaction.. “The Society again undertook the collection of gate money which owing doubtless to the reasons above seated, resulted in a considerable deficiency on that of the previous year. “Twenty-four prize medals have been ordered, and have been daily expected. These will provide for all prizes awarded ut past shows “ Notwluhstanding the unfavourable weather, and the heavy expense in procuring judges from Auckland aud Napier thq Treasurers statement shows the satisfactory credit Balance of £54 6s ! Od. “ Your Committee have much ’pleasure in having to repbrt a considerable increase m memberships since last year, and are hopeful of a still further increase for the current year, and feel confi<lent that the claims of this society representing as it does the most important interests of the district, have only to become better known to insure the active aud hearty support of the people of Poverty Bay.” J. W. Sunderland, (in lieu of the Chairman.)

Mi- Smith proposed, and Mr Davis seconds d, that the report aud Balance-sheet a» read be adopted —Carried. Elhction of Officers.

On the election of officers being proceeded with, Mr Smith proposed, and Mr Matthewson seconded, that Mr G. L. Sunderland be re-e’ected Pres'dent.—Carried. Mr Bond proposed, and Mr Hall seconded, that Mr Johnson be re-elected Vice-Pre-sident. un the proposition of Mr Mathewson Mr Ferris was elected Secretary and Treasurer. It was here mentioned that the Secretary was to be allowed 10 per cent on all funds which passed through his hands. Mr I'uLcneu said that in justice to the Society this should be altered, as the .Secretary would by this rule receive 10 per cent on all monies paid in and paid out. Mr Aislabie said it was the general rule in all soc.eties for the committee to elect their own o fleers, and then to settle the amount of re iiuneracton in committee. He thought this mat.er should be left to the committee. The Chairman heie stated that whatever might be the resolution on this matter it cou.d only be seat as a recommendation to ihe Committee. Mr Ch non said he did not think the meeting was out of order in asking for info..r .tion on this poinj. He thought the loiug ought to oe cleared up at once. Mr Smith also thought this matter ought to be in .de clear us it was never intended nut the Secretary should receive per centage on disbui s»-iiiencs. x\lr Tuteheu proposed and Mr Common seconded, that the Secretary’s remuneration oe 10 per cent < n receipts only.—C-iried. Messrs Ratcliffe and Dufaur were appointed auditors.

Election of Comi httee. It was here remarked thai ■ the Committee sh mid be kept as small as I tossibie as than th re wou-d t>e a better chau ee of getting a quorum together. The following gentlemen were then proposed us the Committee fa r the coming year: —Messrs Smith, Bloom field, Caultou, Sunderland, Aislabie, Tuto> en, Common, Matthews m, Bond, Hare, Clark, Allen, Hall, King, Evans, and Page. The voting resulted in the following gentlemen being elected as ComHh’tteemen— Messrs Smith, Bloomfield, Matthewson, Bond, Allen, King, and Aislabie. Sub-Committee — Messrs Hall, Clarke, Evans, and Sunderland. Cd n'.. ..’ON’DEN’CE, As showing the interest which the outside public take in the Society a letter Wus read from the Kaipoi Woollen Factory, asking to be informed when the next show would be held as they intended to exhibit; from the Canterbury Agricultural aud Pastoral Society asking for date of show. Alteration of Rules. Mr Smith recommended that rule 6, should be made to read as follows :—“ All stock, exnibited must be the property of the exhibitor.” Mr Aislabie said that this alteiatiou would act prejudicially against the Society. He did not see why any member should not exhibit any animal l e chose. Mr Hull said he had exhibited a horse last rear winch was not his property, but he had to pay 10s 6d. it was explained that the object of altering the said rule was to prevent a like reoccurrence. Owners alone were permitted to exhibit. Mr Tutchen moved, and Mr Bloomfield seconded, tnat the rule as altered be adopted. Carried. Catalogues. Mr Sunderland proposed that catalogues be printed setting forth the prices at which stuck would be sold. He pointed out that if any exhibitor did not wish to sell he could put such a price upon his stock as to preclude the possibility of any one bidding fur it. Ou tiie other hand he thought it would be a great accommodation to some who wished to sell, aLo to visitors. The want of catalogues had been much felt last year. Mr Ferris in seconding the motion said the catalogues would, no doubt, prove a source of revenue to the Society. He thought that catalogues were very much wanted. Mr Matthewson thought it should be optional with owners as to whether they chose to put a price on their exhibits The motion of xMr Sunderland was then agreed to. This closed the business of the meeting. It was decided to call a meeting of the Com nilttee next Saturday at 2 30.
